User Mentions

User mentions are an internal commenting feature that lets you draw someone’s attention directly to your comment. You can mention a fellow workspace user by entering the @ symbol, followed by the user’s name.

Once you submit your comment, the user will receive an email notification with a direct link to the comment.

This feature is available in Projects via Review Mode. User mentions are not available in Review Links at this time. To launch Review Mode, open a file in Projects and click the blue button in the top right.

You must have two project-level permissions in order to access Review Mode: 

  1. View permission (to access the file)
  2. Commenting permission (to view and make comments) 

The user you are mentioning must also have these permissions in order to access the file and view your comment. Mentioning a user who does not have these permissions will result in a red alert message at the top of the page: “[User’s name] doesn’t have access to this content and will not receive a notification.” You can choose to keep the user’s name in your comment, but the user will not receive an email notification.

If you are replying to a comment, then the alert message will appear in the comments section on the right, directly below your comment.

Who can I mention? 

You can mention workspace users who have access to the project you’re commenting from. As long as they have view and commenting permissions, they will receive an email notification with a direct link to your comment. 

Mentioning a user who does not have project access or the required permissions will result in the following alert message: “[User’s name] doesn’t have access to this content and will not receive a notification.”

Can I mention external users? 

You cannot mention users who do not have access to your MediaSilo workspace. 

What happens if I edit a comment to include a user mention? 

You can edit a comment to add a user mention; however, the user will not receive an email notification. Email notifications are only sent when mentioning users in a new comment.

 

User Suggestions

When you enter the @ symbol and start typing a user’s name or email address, a menu will automatically suggest users.

This menu may suggest users from your entire workspace, even if you don’t have any projects in common with them– this depends on the workspace-level setting “Allow access to all users in this account” (Administration > Settings > Users).

  • When this toggle is on, the menu will suggest names from your entire workspace. 
  • When this toggle is off, the menu will only suggest users if you have at least one project in common with them. It will not suggest users if you don’t share any projects with them. 

In either case, a message will inform you if you select a user who does not have access to the file you’re commenting on. You can choose to keep the user’s name in your comment, but the user will not receive an email notification.
