Insights is MediaSilo’s comprehensive reporting tool that lets you hone in on any link or asset you've shared, providing you with information on viewer activity and engagement. In this article, we'll show you how to track activity on links, viewers, and shared assets.
Select any Review Link, Presentation, or Spotlight from the lefthand panel to see who has interacted with it. You can click a viewer's name to see a history of the actions they performed, including downloads and approvals. If the viewer is not a MediaSilo user, or if the viewer wasn't logged in to MediaSilo at the time, they will appear as "Anonymous," with each unique anonymous IP address counted separately. On average, it may take about an hour for analytics to be reported in Insights, depending on the amount of link activity.
As an administrator, you can see every link created on your workspace by all workspace users. If you are not an administrator, you will only see the links you have created.
To add files to a link, access the Sent Links tab in Projects. The Sent Links tab offers the fastest path and most options for making changes to your existing links. Learn more by visiting the article Update Existing Links.
Search
Search presents several different ways to filter your analytics by date range, link title, URL, viewer, or asset.
Use the search bar to set a date range or to find a specific link, viewer, or asset.
For example, you can copy the link address of a given review link, presentation, or Spotlight and paste it into the Search field to be taken directly to its insights. Or, if you want to highlight a specific viewer to whom you are pitching, you can search by their name or email.
Map and Graph
You can visualize activity by opening the map and graph section. This section adjusts to show only data for the link, viewer, or asset you have selected.
Open the map by clicking "View Map" under the Review Links tab.
The map shows viewers’ locations via GeoIP. Please note that GeoIP has, on average, a 5-mile margin of error.
The graph shows a visual representation of views per day for a review link, presentation, Spotlight, viewer, or asset.
Click "Graph" to see spikes in activity.
Review Links, Presentations, and Spotlights
Spotlights are microsites created and shared using the Spotlight module.
Presentations are rapidly-created shares of folders or projects that use pre-made or custom Spotlight templates. These are for instances in which you would like to use custom branding or layouts. These are created by using the Share > Presentation option.
Review Links are used for review and approval of videos, images, and documents. These are created through the Share > Review Link flow for one or multiple assets.
You can sort links by title, last activity, expiration date, and number of viewers, sessions, or approvals.
Sort links by clicking the filters icon, or by clicking the column headers themselves.
To determine the engagement of a review link, presentation, or Spotlight, select it to bring out the link’s information in the right-side drawer. If they are open, the graph and map will adjust to only show the activity on the link.
If you want to edit this link, select the options menu (three-dots icon) toward the right of the row. Click Edit to open the Share window, where you can change your link settings or copy the link URL. To add files to a link, access the Sent Links tab in Projects. Learn more by visiting the article Update Existing Links.
Click the options menu to edit a link.
On the right side, you will see the "View" option to open the link itself, as well as an additional path to edit the link. Beneath that is the number of asset views and downloads.
Selecting a user on the review link, presentation, or Spotlight will bring up an activity feed which shows their approvals, downloads, and view events.
Open the drilldown menu in the right column for a detailed activity stream.
Selecting the Assets tab will show you a list of the assets on the review link, presentation, or Spotlight that have been viewed. Selecting an asset will show the users who interacted with it.
For each entry on the right hand side, an options menu will offer the option to go directly to a viewer or an asset’s insights.
Click the options menu to learn more about a particular link, asset, or viewer.
Viewers
The Viewers page allows you to see who has interacted with your review link, presentation, or Spotlight. If a viewer was logged in at the time of their viewing, their name will be displayed and their activity feed will show all content they have viewed, approved, and commented on.
If a user is not logged in, the Insights viewer entry linked to their IP address will appear as "Anonymous" followed by a unique 8-digit ID. Although they are not logged in, all historical activity is available for these users and they can be tracked based on their ID number.
An "anonymous" viewer is not logged into MediaSilo.
If an anonymous user logs in, any further activity will be tracked under their named profile. Since both anonymous and named profiles are linked to a user’s IP address, you are able to use the IP address to determine correlation between a named user and an anonymous profile.
Once a viewer is selected, there are two tabs available on the right: Links and Assets.
Links will show which review link, presentation, or Spotlight the user visited. Selecting one of these will show the list of assets with which they interacted. Clicking the arrow button to the left of the asset will reveal their interactions, including their approvals, views, and downloads.
Select a viewer to see the links and assets with which they have interacted.
The Assets tab in the right column shows the files with which the user has interacted. This is sorted by most recent activity first. Selecting an asset will show a list of the links in which the asset is featured.
To learn more about a particular link or asset, click the options menu and select the "View Insights" option.
Click the options menu to learn more about a link.
Assets
The Assets section on the left shows all shared files with a default sort order of last viewed. When an asset is selected, the two tabs on the right are Links and Viewers.
Links displays any review link, presentation, or Spotlight that contains the selected asset. Selecting the link will reveal the list of viewers.
Viewers displays the list of people who have viewed the file. Selecting a viewer will show the links through which they accessed the file.
